Fully charged NiMh batteries will get you 2.8v, Brand new alkaline will be around 3.2v so the cart plus the backlight just presents too much of a voltage dip. Also, what temp do you solder with on these mods. You seem to get some dags (pointy parts when pulling away the iron from the joint). Should only need 320c or so for these types of jobs. Any higher and you're burning flux away too fast.

  2. Really great kit! Something else to do before putting the insulating film onto the board is wiring the BAT port to the positive battery terminal and the GND port to the negative terminal so that the built-in battery monitor will work. My kit came with 4 wires and one cut about in half reached A and B so I was able to get everything wired up easily

  3. How tall is this new screen compared to the GBA SP? I'm considering what to invest in for a Pokemon Crystal playthrough

  4. @BloodMonkey20

I recently did this mod along with and USB-C Reachable battery and LED lighting. I absolutely love it! Would you possibly consider makin a video on the USB C rechargeable baattery for this GBC ? I would like to see your methode since your ability to trim is so well done and i feel like it would be awesome content. I had a head ach trimming mine lol.

  5. That is a gorgeous screen. I'm so tempted to upgrade mine. I just finished a GBA, but my childhood GBC is begging to be upgraded too.

  6. I think battery display would work if we can solder the battery/ground contacts on the daughter board – I just can't figure out where to wire it to!

  7. @justinludwig3995

Just installed mine (exact one on this video) and it worked for a whole day. The next day I simply powered it on and half the screen was gone. I tried reconnecting the cables and put tape just like you did on this video. Any idea what my issue is?

  8. I used this guide and it worked great. Only thing you didn't do and I suggest people do, is wire up the BATT test pads too, so you can have the battery level indicator working – you said it's not a feature on this mod, but it actually is. Thank you again!

  9. Great video, I just can't understand, where A, B and Select goes? P10 is Select, P11 is A and P12 is B? Am I correct? Thanks!

Hey, i know this video is a bit old and i dont know if you or anybody else will see this comment. I just wanted to say that if your having power draw issues with your NiMH batteries, you can use NiZn batteries in conjuction or byselves to improve performance. The NiZn batteries are available on Amazon and Ebay from a few brands to pick from. They perform great and are rechargable. They even sell Lithium AA batteries, but they dont have as much upfront power like the NiZn.

this guy has basically a nipper, an exacto knife, a chisel, and sandpaper
He's basically ready to build model kits 😂

  12. 3:02 Those two touch sensors can go fuck themselves. Quite often they mess around with screen brightness and color pallets with accidental touches. There should've been an option to disable them without yanking them off the motherboard

  13. @kurikuraconkuritas

Hope someone can help me out. I did the mod and works great but a constant noise is emmitted from the speaker. do I need a voltage regulator or something?

  14. I have installed this kit and I have noticed that when I play with the headphones plugged in the sound is bad.
    Is it normal?

  15. Where can I just buy one? I work to much and have a baby and no time or money to screw this up multiple times before getting it right

  16. @FifthOfNovember_Original

Can anyone confirm this: does this screen mod have any coil whine/coil buzzing when using different brightness settings? Because I am currently using a different mod, that has brightness settings, and unless I use the absolute max brightness, my gameboy starts producing this really loud coil whine sound that is really distracting. If anyone could confirm this for my regarding the Q5 kit, Id be grateful!

  17. i'm new to modding stuff but wanted to mod an old gb color for my partner (we are collectors but haven't gotten into reshelling and stuff yet) for their birthday. this was super super helpful and made it 100% accessible for a beginner thank you so much :-))

  18. I ordered the version that comes with a precut shell. I opted not to solder. However, one of the screws is now stripped as I tightened it too much when putting the shell back on. Wondering if there's a way to remove it should I need to open it again

  19. Hey man, trying to find a reputable place to buy a customisable gameboy color (located in Australia) have had no luck so far. Could you point me in the right direction? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
